Project No. 58100-06-30
September 15, 1995
Page 4
LABORATORY ANALYTICAL METHODS
Ali Soil samples were delivered to Sparger, a California certified analytical laboratory, following
chain-of-custody procedures. Analytical reports and chain-of-custody records are presented in
Appendix C. Soil samples were submitted for the analyses of TPHg, TPHd, TPHmo and TPHk
following EPA Test Method 8015 modified, and BTEX following EPA Test Method 8020.
INVESTIGATIVE RESULTS
The subsurface investigation was extended to a maximum depth of 14.0 meters (46 feet) bgs.
Groundwater was not encountered during the drilling activities, consequently, a groundwater
investigation was not performed.
The area within the project boundaries was covered with asphalt and an approximate 0.9 meters
(3 feet) of sandy silt and silty sand fill material. The underlying native alluvial soil consisted of
sandy silt and fine to medium grained sand to the depths explored.
TPHg, TPHd, TPHmo, TPHk, and BTEX were not detected above the test method detection
. limits for soil samples collected in borings SBI through S138 with the exception of one soil sample
collected in SBI (within the former UST excavation), and in two samples collected in SB5 (within
the former dispenser island excavation).
L, Soil sample S131-1, collected ata depth of 1.7 meters (5.5 feet) bgs, contained 8.3 mg/kg
TPHmo. This sample was collected within the fill backfill material within the former UST
excavation. The remaining soil samples in boring SBI were collected at 1.5 meter (five foot)
intervals between the depths of 3.2 and 7.8 meters (10.5 and 25.5 feet) bsg and tested below the
laboratory test method detection limits for TPHg, TPHd, TPHmo, TPHk and BTEX.
Soil sample SB5-2, collected at a depth of 3.4 meters (I1 feet) bgs, contained 240 mg/kg TPHg,
L l I mg/kg TPHd, and 0.09 mg/kg total xylenes. Soil sample S135-3, collected at 4.9 meters (16.
feet) bgs, contained 3 mg/kg TPHmo. The remaining soil samples collected in SB5 at 1.5 meter
(5 foot) intervals between the depths of 6.4 and 9.3 meters (21.0 and 30.5 feet) bgs tested below
L the laboratory test method detection limits for TPHg, TPHd, TPHmo, TPHk and BTEX. A
summary of soil sample analytical results is presented on Table I.
L
L
L
L
L
