Project No. S8100-06-30
July 25, 1995
Page 2 -
under the tanks "had a strong hydrocarbon odor." The approximate former locations of the USTs,
product piping and associated fuel dispensers are depicted on the Site Plan, Figure 2.
Soil samples were obtained beneath theproduci.piping'at the elbow, and beneath each dispenser.
at depths of approximately 4 to 4-.5.feet.below ground surface (bgs). The piping samples were
analyzed for total petroleum.1 ydrocarbons as gasoline (TPHg), diesel (TPHd) and motor oil .
(TPHmo) and benzene,. ,toluene; ethyibenzene.;and .total xylenes (BTEX). The results of
laboratory,tests indicated,nondetected-concentrations of the target compounds.with the exception -
of 92 reg/kg TPHd (characterized as kerosene) beneath the diesel dispenser at a depth of 4 feet
bgs.
Groundwater was not encountered within-the.UST and piping excavations. The excavations were
subsequently backfilled and'repaved with asphalt concrete.
PURPOSE AND RATIONAI:E
The purpose of the work outlined in Task Order. No. 10-5FI000-12 is to provide.additional
information -regarding potential soil and groundwater petroleum hydrocarbon .impacts in the
vicinity of the former USTs. The proposed soil boring locations haves been chosen by'Caltrans
to define the lateral and vertical extent of petroleum hydrocarbon impacted soil if encountered.
A provision for the installation of groundwater monitoring.well(s),has been included herein if
groundwater conditions are encountered within the borings:
SCOPE OF SERVICES'
The following scope of services'have been prepared to achieve the objectives stated herein.
Pre-Field'Activities
A Prework Site Visit was conducted on July 13, 1995 with the Caltrans contract:managers, Mr.
Saiyed Ali and Mr. Japtej GJ to inspect the work area. The Prework Site Visit'°Checklist and
Completion.Schedule was subsequently discussed and signed byMr. John Juhrend, the Geocon
project manager, and by Mr."Gill:: -:The proposed boring locations were marked during the
Prework Site Visit. In addition to the Prework Site Visit the following items will be completed
prior to commencing field work:
• A soil boring/well permit will-be obtained from the San Joaquin County_Public Health
Services.
• Notify the subscribing public utility agencies via Underground Service Alert a minimum
Of 48 hours prior to commencing:the subsurface investigation to determine the location of
N -
