4.0 Scope of Work
To achieve the project objective, the following scope of work will be conducted:
1. Permitting and Mobilization
2. Field Investigation
3. Laboratory Analyses
4. Investigation-Derived Waste Disposal
5. Site Investigation Report Preparation
i
4.1 Permitting and Mobilization
Permits for the soil and groundwater investigation will be obtained from the San Joaquin County
i
Environmental Health Department. A Caltrans permit to enter is also required for this
investigation. Underground Service Alert will be notified of the subsurface investigation at least
48 hours prior to initiation of the.investigation.
Prior to the initiation of fieldwork, a site health and safety plan will be prepared in accordance
with 29 CFR 1910.120. The health and safety plan will include safety procedures for work to be
performed at the site, chemical hazard information, site safety officers, and preferred medical
emergency.locations. All work done on site will be in accordance with the health and safety
plan.
4.2 Field Investigation
This task will include the emplacement of one boring for collection of soil samples and one
boring for collection of discreet groundwater samples. The boring locations were selected by
Caltrans to provide data for determining the vertical extent of contamination (Figure 2).
Drilling and sampling procedures are presented in Appendix A.
f
4.2.1 Drilling and Soil Sampling
The soil borings will be advanced using Geoprobeo, direct-push, sampling equipment. The
sampling equipment will be mounted a truck mounted rig. The soil boring will be advanced to a
PP
depth of approximately 30 meters (100 feet) below ground surface (bgs).
P
At the boring location approximately 20 soil samples will be collected at a 1.5 meter (5 feet)
interval to the maximum depth of 30 meters. Soil samples will be collected using an
approximately 2.5-centimeter (1-inch) diameter sampler lined with an acetate sample tube. Soil
samples retained for hazardous materials testing shall be 15 to 17 centimeters (6 to 8 inches)in
SnCDP-N:\rincfp APmjeclABM35278wkpin&hsp\CadiCPT_wkp.doc 4-1
2/4N2
