1 SECTION 02225 <br /> 3 STRUCTURE EXCAVATION AND BACKFILL <br /> r 4 <br /> 5 <br /> 6 PART 1: GENERAL <br /> 7 <br /> s 1.01 DESCRIPTION <br /> r9 <br /> 10 The work of this section consists of all structure excavation and backfill required to <br /> 11 complete the work, including rock excavation and furnishing select or imported backfill. It <br /> 12 includes disposal of surplus or unsuitable material. <br /> 13 <br /> 14 1.02 QUALITY ASSURANCE <br /> 15 <br /> 16 Evaluation of all fill materials and testing required to determine compliance for the work of <br /> 17 this section will be the responsibility of the Owner and at the Owner's expense. The <br /> 18 Contractor shall cooperate by rerouting equipment or by temporarily closing the immediate <br /> 19 work area being tested. Areas where test results indicate noncompliance shall be corrected <br /> 20 before placing additional backfill. <br /> 21 <br /> 22 1.03 PROJECT CONDITIONS <br /> 23 <br /> za Take necessary precautions to prevent the entrance of soils and other materials into <br /> 25 streambeds, lakes, or water courses. <br /> 26 <br /> 27 1.04 RELATIVE COMPACTION TEST <br /> 28 <br /> 29 Where relative compaction densities are specified in these specifications, the maximum <br /> 30 density shall be determined in accordance with the latest revision of either California Test <br /> 31 216 (California Department of Transportation), ANSI/ASTM 1557, or AASHO T180 and the <br /> 32 actual density of in-place materials shall be determined in accordance with the latest <br /> 33 revision of either California Test 216 or 231, ANSI/ASTM 1556, or ANSI/ASTM 2922. Method <br /> 34 selection shall be made by the Engineer. <br /> 35 <br /> 36 1.05 CONSTRUCTION SAFETY ORDERS <br /> 37 <br /> ae All excavation work shall conform to the Contractor's Safety Orders, Sections 1539-1547, <br /> 39 Title 8 of the California Code of Regulations. <br /> 40 <br /> 41 <br /> 42 PART 2: MATERIALS <br /> 43 <br /> as 2.01 ENGINEERED FILL <br /> 45 <br /> 46 A. Engineered fill shall consist of select backfill or imported select fill.
