Select Backfill: Materials for backfill shall be fine. readily compactible soil or soil-rock , <br /> 2 mixture selected from the excavation, or from other approved sources, and shall not contain <br /> 3 frozen lumps, stones or rock fragments larger than 4 inches, chunks of highly plastic clay, <br /> 4 organic or other objectionable material. Rock fragments over 4 inches may be reused if <br /> 5 processed down to hard fragments less than 4 inches in size. <br /> 6 <br /> 7 C. All cleared material shall become the property of the Contractor and shall be disposed of <br /> 38 at a location off the site in a manner satisfactory to the Engineer at the Contractor's <br /> 39 expense. <br /> 40 ,41 3.02 STRUCTURAL EXCAVATION <br /> 42 <br /> 43 A. General: All excavation for structures shall be done to the dimensions and levels indicated <br /> 44 on the drawings or specified herein. Excavation shall be made to such width outside the <br /> 45 lines of the structure to be constructed therein as may be required for proper working <br /> 46 methods, the erection of forms and the protection of the work. Care shall be taken to <br /> 47 preserve the foundation surfaces shown on the drawings in an undisturbed condition. If <br /> 48 the Contractor excavates or disturbs the foundation surfaces shown on the drawings or <br /> 49 specified herein without written authorization of the Engineer he shall replace at his <br /> 50 expense such foundations with compacted gravel foundation fill or other material approved <br /> STRUCTURE EXCAVATION AND BACKFILL <br /> 050594 02225-2 <br />
