The Quarterly Groundwater Monitoring Report for the third quarter of 1995, t
recently submitted to the Regional Water Quality Control Board (RWQCB) recommended a change in
the free product monitoring and removal procedures and installation of Oxygen Release Compound(ORC)
Filter Socks in three Site wells. These recommendations were discussed with you in a November 3, 1995
telephone conversation. Your November 6, 1995 letter requested the following additional information: a
F
• How product bailed from well MW-3 will be stored, for how long, and how it will be T
disposed.
The nature of the matrix material in the ORC Filter Socks and the nature of residuals left `.
after the oxygen is released.
• How the effectiveness of the ORC Filter Socks will be monitored.
Free Product Storage and Disposal
Purged groundwater and free product generated during bailing of well MW-3 and decontamination water
from skimmer cleaning will be stored on-site in 55-gallon drums and disposed of appropriately at three
month intervals by Marina personnel. A summary of these activities will be included in the quarterly
monitoring report for the fourth quarter of 1995.
ORC Filter Sock Information
ORC Filter Socks will be installed in wells MW-2, MW-3, and MW-4 on November 15, 1995. The
ORC Filter Socks are from REGENESIS Bioremediation Products and contain magnesium peroxide and
release oxygen at a slow, controlled rate enhancing natural bioremediation. The matrix material for these
Filter Socks is polyester and therefore, will pose no threat to groundwater quality. The residual product
remaining in the Filter Socks following the release of oxygen is magnesium hydroxide which also poses
no threat to groundwater quality and requires no special disposal procedures.
90.A'cu :llurNgurnrr Sh ct1, SrrilcC>>U, .Sn,r l'rn,rcisc,,, t.A ().//05-450.; (415),1'R2-15 j8 I-4/5/,58')-i 106 l l V
