r '
Mr. Moore 2 _ - 21 March 1996
of trends in microbial populations, but there are no data on these parameters at this site. There also
is no indication of the radius of influence of the socks. The combined impacts of the past year's
increased rainfall and the installation of the ORC socks are, therefore, difficult to assess using
available data. For this reason, staff recommends that the quarterly monitoring schedule be
retained. We concur that MW-5, having shown no detections throughout 1994 and 1995, may be
rconsidered for reduction in monitoring frequency, but do not want this well abandoned at this
time. Recognizing that some of the other wells have recently shown detections or increases in
parameters that had been undetected or decreasing in 1994-95 compared with 1993, and that MW-5
did have detections of benzene and toluene in 1993, staff believes that revision of the monitoring
program to change MW-5 to a semi-annual sampling schedule will be appropriate only if the next
one or two quarterly monitoring events continue to show non-detection.
We recognize that the levels of contaminants in these wells are low. We are prepared to reduce the
—'number orwells and the monitoring frequency, onto eliminate the monitoring program altogether,
as soon as the existing program shows clear indicators of effective biological activity.
If you have any questions or conunen'ts, please call me at (916)255-3119.
G WIG TT, C.E.G.
As iate ngineering Geologist
Aboveground Storage Tank Program
GW:gw
cc: .Mr. Mike Infurna, SJCPHS
Ms. Yvonne Mabee, Tower Park Marina, Lodi
Mr. Tom Welch,Westrec Properties, North Hollywood
s
t,
