<br /> 9 Geoprobe soil borings were advanced at the above referenced site on June 24, 1998. San Joaquin
<br /> County Public Health Services, Environmental Health Division (PHS/EHD) received the Preliminary
<br /> Investigation and Evaluation Report dated March 30, 1999 prepared by Advanced GeoEnvironmental,
<br /> Inc. (AGE) on April 2, 1999.
<br /> • SoiI samples were collected from Soil Boring 1 (BI) to B7 for laboratory analyses. Hydrocarbon
<br /> petroleum contamination was detected in the soil samples collected from 6 of the 7 soil borings.
<br /> The soil sample with the highest petroleum hydrocarbon concentration was taken from B5 at 10
<br /> feet below surface grade(bsg). The analytical results of this soil sample were 9,100 parts per billion
<br /> (ppb) of Benzene, 34,000 ppb of Toluene, 17,000 ppb of Ethyl-benzene, 82,000 ppb of Xylenes,
<br /> 43,000 ppb of Methyl Tert-Butyl Ether (MTBE), and 630 parts per million (ppm) of Total
<br /> Petroleum Hydrocarbon as gasoline (TPH-g). Grab water samples were collected from 7 of the 9
<br /> soil borings (131, B3,B5,B6, B7,B8,B9) for laboratory analyses. Analytical results of the grab
<br /> water sample from B8 was 65 ppb of MTBE, and from B9 was 0.89 ppb of Benzene. Petroleum
<br /> contamination in the soil at B8 and B9 has not been determined since soil samples were not
<br /> collected. B8 was the southernmost boring advanced on site during this investigation, while B9 was
<br /> the northernmost boring. Therefore, the horizontal extent of the soil contamination at the site has
<br /> not been defined.
<br /> • The deepest soil sample analyzed was collected from B5 at 25 feet bsg. The analytical results of this
<br /> soil sample were 6.0 ppb of Benzene, 19 ppb of Toluene,7.3 ppb of Ethyl-Benzene,33 ppb of
<br /> Xylenes,and 58 ppb of MTBE. The vertical extent of the soil contamination at the site has not
<br /> been defined. PHS/EHD recommends characterizing the geology on site using methods such as
<br /> continuous core boring or Cone Penetration Testing.
<br /> • Petroleum Hydrocarbon contaminants were detected in 5 of the 7 grab water samples analyzed.
<br /> The water sample with the highest contaminant concentration was collected from BI using EPA
<br /> Method 8020. The results of the analytical sample were 27,000 ppb of TPH-g,2,100 ppb of
<br /> Benzene, 4,600 ppb of Toluene, 1,100 ppb of Ethyl-benzene, and 5,400 ppb of Xylenes (BTEX
<br /> collectively). The analytical results of BTEX constituents are all above California Primary
<br /> Maximum Contaminant Levels (MCL) for drinking water. The highest concentration of MTBE
<br /> detected by Method 8260 was taken from B5 at 11,000 ppb,which is above California's drinking
<br /> water action level of 13 ppb for MTBE. A pumping station approximately 2,750 feet northeast of
<br /> the site was identified in the report. A survey must be conducted to identify all wells and other
<br /> sensitive receptors within 2,000 feet radius of this site.
