Three B's Truck Stop Page 2 of 2
14749 N. Thornton Road August 17, 2011
Lodi, California
contamination encountered at this site. To better ascertain if contaminant vapor is
present and posing a threat to the public or employees in the building, the EHD requires
you to relocate two of the soil vapor probes closer to the building. The probes should be
set at 5 feet below ground surface (bsg), the depth cited by most authoritative guidance
documents and used for vapor intrusion modeling. The shallower proposed depth (three
feet bsg) may be used if supported by an authoritative guidance document appropriate
for site conditions.
At least one soil vapor probe should be installed in the driveway just west of the building
to detect any contaminant vapor that has migrated toward the building. Another soil
vapor probe should be installed to 5' bgs near the southern entry of the building to
ascertain if any contaminant vapor is present between the historically contaminated
dispenser islands to the south and the building.
The EHD approves the location for proposed confirmation borings P-19, P-20, and P-21
for soil sample collection. The plan will be considered adequate and necessary with the
above noted concerns properly addressed [H&S 25296.10(c)(3)]; if you concur you may
proceed, otherwise submit a revised work plan with technical justification for an
alternative investigation design that addresses the concerns noted above. Please
submit a revised map showing the location of the soil vapor probes and a probe
construction schematic. In addition, the Test is approved as necessary and adequate.
The fee for an EHD permit for soil vapor probes (installation and removal the same day)
is $500. If you plan to install soil vapor wells (probes that remain in beyond the day they
were installed are considered a well), the application and inspection fee for an EHD
permit is $375 plus $125 per each vapor well. Vapor probes to be left in place beyond
the day they are installed (wells) must have a watertight surface seal, a locking cap for
the casing, and a traffic box installed. The removal of these wells requires an EHD
permit and fees equal to those of the installation.
You may contact Michael Infurna, Senior REHS at (209) 468-3454 if you have any
questions or wish to di s the site.
Michael J.
