r \I
Advanced
GeoEnvironmental, Inc .
15 June 2004
AGE-NC Project No. 97-0249
Mr. Mike Infiirna
JUN 2 1 2004
San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department ENVIRONMENT HEALTH
304 East Weber Avenue, 3''Floor PERMIT/SERVICES
Stockton, California 95202
Subject: Recommendation to Abandon Domestic Water Well (DW-1)
THREE B'S TRUCK PLAZA
14749 Thornton Road, Lodi, California
Dear Mr. Infurna:
At the request of Mr.Andy Zarakani of D.I.K.Tracy Enterprises Inc.,Advanced GeoEnvironmental,
Inc. (AGE) has prepared this recommendation for the abandonment of the domestic water well
(DW-1)located at 14749 Thornton Road,Lodi,California(site). The location of the site is illustrated
on Figure 1; a plan of the site is illustrated on Figure 2.
Previously, a down-hole video camera probe was conducted at DW-1 by Water Well Technology
Inc.on 06 November 2001.The results of the down-hole video probe revealed that the well consisted
of 10-inch diameter,PVC blank well casing from surface grade to a depth of 83 feet below surface
grade(bsg);there were no apparent areas of perforations visible during the down-hole video probe.
Between 83 feet and 99 feet bsg, the well appeared to be an open-bottom type well (i.e. no well
casing, open borehole).
To monitor for petroleum-impacted ground water at DW-1, `grab'water samples have been collected
on a quarterly basis since April 1999. Since April 1999,no petroleum constituents of concern have
been detected from DW-1.However,four ground water monitoring wells(MW-6,MW-9A,MW-9B
and MW-9C) located less than 25 feet from DW-1 have consistently been impacted with either
gasoline (TPH-g), benzene or methyl-tert-butyl-ether (MTBE). Analytical results from MW-6,
MW-9A,MW-9B and MW-9C are summarized in Table 1. Well MW-6 is screened between 5 and
25 feet bsg, MW-9A is screened between 40 and 45 feet bsg, MW-9B is screened between 70 and
75 feet bsg and MW-9C is screened between 95 and 100 feet bsg.
Furthermore,it appears that ground water pumping at DW-1 may be drawing the dissolved portion
of the Three B's Truck Plaza plume towards it. Based on a ground water elevation maps of
Hydrologic Unit 2(between 35 and 60 feet)on 15 March 2004, and of Hydrologic Unit 4(between
837 Shaw Road,Stockton,California 95215
Telephone(209)467-1006 FAX(209)467-1118
