I solicited 3 bids from local sonic drilling companies. The Three B's
Truck Plaza site was allocated only$27500 so I am submitting budget change order with the UST Cleanup Fund to cover
the cost of using sonic drill rig. Once cost is approved by state,we will begin well destruction work at site.
Thanks-Tim
From: Gabriel Gonzalez [EH] [mailto:oagonzalez(o)sicehd.com]
Sent: Tuesday, July 01, 2014 11:58 AM
To: Tim Cuellar
Subject: RE: 14749 Thornton Road Well Destruction Work Plan Addendum
Good morning Tim,
What is the status of your plans to destroy MW-7 through MW-15?
Thank you,
Gabe
From: Gabriel Gonzalez [EH]
Sent: Wednesday, June 04, 2014 8:10 AM
To: Tim Cuellar'
Cc: Adrienne Ellsaesser [EH]
Subject: 14749 Thornton Road Well Destruction Work Plan Addendum
Good morning Tim,
I have reviewed your 14749 Thornton Road Well Destruction Work Plan Addendum dated May 9, 2014. 1 spoke with my
supervisor, Adrienne Ellsaesser, regarding the destruction of CMT wells MW-7 through MW-15, and received the
following information:
1. Regarding MW-7 through MW-10, pressure grouting will not be successful on CMT wells. Over drilling a CMT
well has never been successful. The drill bit becomes entangled with the CMT casing within the first 20 feet,
halting further destruction of the well. In a few cases the bit was permanently lost in the borehole. Please
provide us with an alternative method for destroying these wells.Aside from the detonation over-drill
technique, sonic over-drilling has been successful in the past for CMT well destruction.
2. Regarding MW-11 through MW-15,grouting the chambers of the CMT wells, prior to detonation with 50-grain
special wire explosive, is not necessary.
If you have any questions, please direct them to Adrienne Ellsaesser via telephone (408) 468-0343 or email
AEllsaesser@sicehd.com
2
