GE®PAATRIX
Mr. Christopher Cochrane
California Regional Water Quality Control Board
May 30, 2001
Page 2
concern. The March 1, 2001, work plan described additional analyses consisting of
boron, nitrate, and soluble cations (calcium, magnesium, and sodium); however, these
are not constituents of concern and will not be analyzed.
We recommend at a minimum two-background soil sampling locations.
We concur with your recommendation of two background soil locations. The borings
will be continuously cored to 30 feet bgs. Samples will be submitted for laboratory
analysis from the surface and from depths of 2, 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, and 30 feet bgs. The
samples will be analyzed for the constituents of concern as described above.
All soil borings will be filled with a neat cement/bentonite grout mixture (about 5 percent
bentonite). The grout will be placed in the boring by lowering a tremie pipe or flexible hose to
the bottom of the boring and filling the boring from the bottom to the ground surface.
We anticipate beginning the soil assessment at the former Victor facility during late June or
early July 2001. We will notify you prior to beginning the work. Please call if you have
questions or need additional information.
Sincerely yours,
GEOMATRRDC CONSULTANTS,INC.
ul C.
