WASTE DISCHARGE REQLIIRE1pIENTS ORDER NO. • -4-
R. LAWSON ENTERPRISES DBA WILDROSE VINEYARDS
SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY
16. The Discharger proposes to land-apply the winery wastewater. The application area consists of
vineyard and cherry orchard cropland. The total cropland is approximately 9.2 acres and an
additional 4.6 acres of fallow land can be made available for irrigation by planting a crop.
17. Because Discharge Specification B.2 prohibits application of winery wastewater during rain events
or when the soil is saturated, the Discharger will install a 12,000 gallon aboveground storage tank
to store winery wastewater until climatic conditions allow application.
18. The winery is served by a municipal water supply. The primary water production well is located
approximately 500 feet north of the wastewater pond. A secondary(previously used)municipal
water supply well is located approximately 150 feet northeast of the wastewater pond. The
secondary well was replaced due to elevated concentrations of dibromochloropropane (DBCP).
Samples from the primary well were collected for chemical analysis on 29 November 1999, and
selected analyte results are presented below.
Anal3je Units Concentrations
Sulfate mg/1 ND (1.0)
Nitrate (as Nitrate) mg/1 ND (0.4)
Chloride mg/1 6
Total Alkalinity mg/l 80
Elec. Three groundwater monitoring wells exist around the wastewater evaporation/percolation pond. In
1999, groundwater elevations in the wells vaned from approximately 60 to 70 feet below ground
surface.
20. Previous use of the wastewater pond by Dole Fruit, and present day use of the pond by CFP,may
have impacted local groundwater quality. Groundwater quality at the wastewater pond is
characterized by sample events performed from June 1993 to July 1999. Groundwater samples
collected from Wells MW-2 and MW-3 are suspected of being impacted by prior wastewater
discharge to the pond. Average concentrations in samples collected from the wells are presented
below.
Analyte Units MW-1 MW-2 MW-3
Sodium mg/1 35 106 120
Manganese mg/1 0.10 2.36 4.87
Iron mg/1 0.97 0.57 2.94
Sulfate mg/1 64 228 172
Chloride mg/l 37 177 254
C\Project FiWSR.Mld R.16W m dR WDR.
