' In a letter dated June 11, 2002, the SJCEHD requested additional assessment to ascertain the <br /> extent of soil and groundwater impact in the area of the former 2,000-gallon diesel UST A work <br />' plan was submitted to the SJCEHD in July 2002 (IT, 2002c) and subsequently approved by the <br /> SJCEHD on August 9, 2002 The results of the assessment activities are presented in this report <br />' A copy of the letter from the SJCEHD is included in Appendix A <br />' 2.0 Scope of Work <br /> The investigation included advancing six soil borings at select locations on the site Four soil <br />' samples and six grab water samples were collected and analyzed for fuel analytes <br />' 3.0 Work Performed <br /> The work included the following activities <br /> 1 <br /> 3.1 Work Plan, Permitting, and Health and Safety Plan <br />' A work plan was developed to outline procedures for the field investigation Upon review and <br /> approval of the work plan, a permit was issued by the SJCEHD A copy of the permit is included <br /> in Appendix B A representative of the SJCEHD (Mr Michael Infurna) was notified of the <br /> lie proposed drill date A site-specific health and safety plan was developed and reviewed in a <br />' tailgate health and safety meeting, conducted the day of the field work to review safety measures <br /> 3.2 Underground Utility Location <br />' Underground Service Alert(USA) was contacted and notified of the anticipated drilling locations <br /> and date of field activities Additionally, Geotech Utility Locating of El Cerrito, California was <br />' used to locate underground utilities near the anticipated drilling locations <br />' 33 Soil Borings and Sample Collection <br /> On September 19, 2002, Gregg Drilling of Martinez, California, advanced six direct-push soil <br />' borings at the site under the direction of Shaw personnel During advancement of borings <br /> PB-SB-1 and PB-SB-2, extensive pea gravel backfill was encountered in the subsurface Soil <br /> samples were collected from the pea gravel These borings were located along the southern and <br />' northern borders of the former UST excavation, respectively <br />' CNCDIi 1-20-0210 SHAROUST\02-0086 dm 2 <br /> 1 <br />
