Attached is a copy of the daily tank reconciliation record (metered sales and daily stick readings ) maintained by this facility for the month of February, 1989 . Your attention is respectfully directed to entries for February 9 , 1989 which reflect a net gallon shortage of 519 gallons of unleaded gasoline . Compiled on a "gross" gallon delivery, this amount would be 482 gallons . There were no overages on the regular or supreme products . Repeated and separate stick readings made by the undersigned and the manager at 8 : 08 a .m. on February 10 , 1989 confirm the variance . (Daily report for 2-9-89) We are positive of the accuracy of all measurements and figures . In view of the above, we can only conclude the following : A. The delivery was short B . Possible unleaded tank leak 1 . The installation of new double wall fiberglass tanks in October , 1984 tends to preclude this possibility. 2 . All leak detection equipment was checked and found to be functioning properly. 3 . Insufficient variances prior to and following this delivery to suspect a leak. C . Theft by siphoning or pump device from storage tank.
