SITE MONITORING WELLS <br /> ❑ Has a load bearing capacity of 1200 lbs. <br /> ♦ New installations - place monitoring wells a minimum <br /> • Optional heavy duty manway. of 1' outside of tank sides or ends. <br /> ❑ Has a load bearing capacity of 2400 lbs. • Existing Installation - place monitoring wells a mini- <br /> mum of 3' from tank sides or ends (see figure 25). <br /> • Fiberglass heavy duty manways must be specified on FIGURE 25 <br /> tanks equipped with helical heating coils, agitators or <br /> pumps with a total downward load greater than 1200 <br /> lbs. but less than 2400 lbs. feRN Monitoring Well <br /> • Do not exceed 50 foot pounds torque during bolt tight- <br /> ening or manway flange damage may occur. <br /> Note: All 30" and 36" manways installed on single- <br /> wall tanks and all manways on double-wall tanks are <br /> heavy duty. @ 1 ft. Minimum-New {nstaIIati0n O <br /> A13. SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR 3 ft. Minimum-Existing Installation <br /> COMPARTMENT TANKS ♦ Backfill with same material as tank backfill. <br /> Kerosene must be separated from gasoline <br /> with a Double-wall Bulkhead. Potable water <br /> must be separated from all petroleum products <br /> with a Double-wall Bulkhead. Mixing of kero- <br /> sene and gasoline may result in explosion or <br /> fire and possible injury or death. <br /> • Each compartment should be tested as though it were <br /> an individual tank. Use the applicable procedures <br /> listed previously in this section (section A-3). <br /> • Test the annular space as described earlier in this <br /> section (note that the annular space is continuous <br /> around all compartments including the space between <br /> any double wall bulkhead). <br /> • For single wall tanks in a double bulkhead: <br /> ❑ Connect compressor hose to the 4" bulkhead an- <br /> nulus access fitting and pressurize to 5 psi maxi- <br /> mum. <br /> ❑ Close the valve and disconnect the air supply. <br /> ❑ Soap the fitting and the tank shell wall for 5 feet <br /> on each side of the fitting. Soap this area 360 <br /> degrees complete around the tank. <br /> 16 <br />
