(Geomatrix), conducted an additional field assessment on behalf
of the Port of Stockton at UST Site No. 3 on January 28, 2003. This work was conducted
based on the "Work Plan for Additional Assessment and Remediation Evaluation of
Petroleum Hydrocarbons in Groundwater"dated October 2002, and a letter from the San ;
Joaquin Environmental Health Department dated October 22, 2002.
Soil core samples and a grab groundwater sample were collected at a location near B3-5. j
Dual-wall (double core-barrel), dual-hole, direct-push method was used to advance the'boring.li- r :
The first borehole was used for continuous soil coring to about 49 feetbelow ground surface
(bgs). The second borehole was used for discrete-depth grab groundwater sampling. For the
second borehole, the outer core-barrel was advanced to about 38 feet bgs, with sail cores
removed; a groundwater sampler was then advanced to about 44 feet bgs with the screen
interval exposed from 40 to 44 feet bgs for collecting a grab groundwater sample.
Soil samples were examined for petroleum hydrocarbon(PHC) oder and Field-screened for
total volatile organic compound (VOC) concentrations using a photoionization detector(PID).
Neither PHC odor nor VOCs were detected in the soil core samples collected from 0 to 8 feet
bgs. Slight PHC odor and PID readings up to 18 parts per million by volume (ppmv) were
detected in the soil core samples collected from 8 to 12 feet bgs. Relatively strong PHC oder ..
and PID readings of 122 to 309 ppmv were detected in the soil core samples collected from 16
to 24 feet bgs. Slight PHC odor and PID readings up to 8 ppmv were detected in the soil core '° ;
samples collected from 26 to 36 feet bgs, No PHC odor or VOCs were detected in the soil
core samples collected from 37 to 49 feet bgs.
The grab groundwater sample collected from 40 to 44 feet bgs was analyzed for
1,2-dichloroethane (12DCA), 13TPX (benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylenes), and ,
y'
oxygenates MTBE diiso ro 1 ether DIPS 'eth 1 tart butyl ether, and tart amyl methyl
Yg  p PY [ 1, Y Y Y
ether) using U.S. Environmental .Prutection Agency (EPA) Method 8260,TPHg using E
Gsonnotrix Consultants, 'Inc.
Engineer, aeologists, and Environmental Scientists
4
. 1:1EROyEG'116000sC,437.000If'ax&L•etterslproject iipdaRe 2.10.03.dnr _ r 'i , F'-'e - r.
