2.1 SITE DESCRIPTIONS ,
The two sites are collectively identified by PHS/EHD as "Ste Code 1282-124 " Both saes are
located in the central porton of the Port of Stockton complex, about midway between
Washington-Street and the deep water channel. Site 2 is located about 30 feet north of Port
Road G, and about 100 feet west of Port Road 13 (Figure 2). Site 3 is approximately 750 west
of Site 2 and is located about 50 feet north of Port Road G and about 300 feet west of Port '
Road 14 (Figures 1 and 3) Following is a description of the tanks, as well as excavation and
sampling activities at each of the two saes '
2.1.1 Site 2
Site 2 had a 1,000-gallon tank, which was identified as Tank #2 on the removal contractor's
notes (Appendix A) According to the PHS/EHD inspection report, the tank contained regular
gasoline. The tank was removed on August 10, 1987 by Stockton Service Station Equipment ,
Co , Inc (SSSE). No information is available as to the size of the excavation, the age or
condition of the tank, or whether there was associated product piping or a dispenser. ,
According to the PHS/EHD inspection report, a soil sample was collected by SSSE in "blue
clay soil" at the south end of the tank No information is available as to the depth of the
sample or whether the soils were discolored or contained petroleum product odor. An
additional sample was collected by SSSE on September 22, 1987 from a depth of 16 feet below
ground surface (bgs). Soils were described as "clay" during these resampling activities, and
no petroleum product odor was noted lin the sample. No information is available as to whether
groundwater was encountered during the excavation or resampling events
Subsequent to the removal of the tank, an approximately 200-foot diameter refrigeration dome
has been constructed over the former tank location A thick concrete slab, serving as the
foundation of the dome, currently covers the former tank and excavation area As such, the '
former excavation area is no longer directly accessible
2.1.2 Site 3 '
Site 3 had two 12,000-gallon tanks (Figure 3), identified on a PHS/EHD inspection report as '
Tank #1 and Tank #4, both of which contained unleaded gasoline. The tanks were removed
on February 16, 1988 by SSSE No information is available as to the age or condition of the
tanks, or whether any associated product piping was removed The inspection report includes '
a sketch which shows two "pumps" located south of the tanks (Appendix A), presumably
dispensers for the two tanks Approximately 180 cubic yards of soil were excavated with the
tanks to a depth of about 11 feet bgs A total of four soil samples were collected by SSSE
2 '98117%szsusTnv wrN
