The report, dated 9 August 2006, was submitted by
Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) on behalf of Chevron.
The four corrugated steel vaults, approximately two feet in diameter and four feet deep, are
located along the perimeter and east section of Alden Park. Previously, the vaults were
installed in the latter 1980's as an effort to recover crude oil present in shallow soils. The
process was unsuccessful and eventually terminated in 1994; the vaults have not been used
since that time.
According to the workplan, after obtaining appropriate City of Tracy permits, the vaults and
surrounding materials will be removed using a backhoe. The materials removed will be
properly disposed at a permitted landfill. Each excavation will be backfilled with a bentonite
slurry and/or high-density soil to minimize water infiltration.
Regional Water Board staff concurs with the workplan to remove the oil seep vaults. Please
provide a brief summary report after the work has been completed.
If you have any questions or comments, please contact Dean Hubbard at (559) 445-5179.
SHELTON R. GRAY C.
