But you should know, my 17 years experience
with pp vs o/bore has shown the labor costs to properly dig the pressure grout
larger hole way exceeds the o/bore procedures. I know of only ONE C-57
contractor, Woodward, that has adequately provided an alternative to the digging
and labor expense and time needed to prep for pressure grout. Others have taken
hours to dig out the hole to meet SIC standards.
As a helpful option here, and a slight push for o/bore, most shallow 2" mw's have
been known to 'popsicle' out once the surface seal is loosened/broken. The casing
then can be pulled up 3-6" to prove it's loose. Once loose, the bottom cap can
be popped off with internal rods dropped down from the rig tower.. the PVC casing
now becomes a 'tremie' tube and the thin grout can be added down it. The casing
can then be pulled out, the filter pack collapses and mixes with the grout making
an 'approved' sand-slurry, effectively "removing the contents" and meeting o/bore
requirements, all in an —8" hole. The hole is topped off to match the surface and
the well is properly destroyed...NO augers hooked up, no drilling, no digging...no
pressure and no big hole needed....
once I have the data to support contam vs clean, and it's clean..you can choose
your method.
-----Original Message-----
From: MICHAEL.E.JENKINS@saic.com [mailto:MICHAEL.E.JENKINS@saic.com]
Sent: Monday, April 10, 2006 12:20 PM
To: Mike Infurna [EH]
Subject: RE: Alden Park Well Abandonment
Mr. Infurna-
4/19/2006
