-7- <br /> 7 . 2 Drilling and Sam2ling Practices <br /> For all drilling and sampling activities, the following standard <br /> safety procedures shall be employed: <br /> 1. All drilling and sampling equipment should be cleaned before <br /> proceeding to the drill site. <br /> 2 . At the drill or sampling site, sampling equipment should be <br /> cleaned whenever the possibility of transferring oil to a "clean" <br /> area exists. <br /> 3. The minimum number of personnel necessary to achieve the <br /> objectives shall be within 25 ft from the drilling or sampling <br /> activity, where practical . <br /> 4 . Exclusion zones will be established during subgrade work . <br /> This determination will be made by the SSO in conjunction with <br /> the PM and site personnel. <br /> 5 . All unauthorized personnel will remain outside exclusion <br /> zones at all times. <br /> 8 . 0 Respirator Instructions <br /> 8 .1 Full—Face Respirator <br /> 8.1.1 Inspection Procedures <br /> 1 . Inspection to be done daily (on days of subgrade work ) prior <br /> to arrival at the site. <br /> 2 . Look at the shape of the facepiece for possible distortion <br /> that may occur if it is not protected during storage. <br /> 3 . Check the facepiece for dirt, cracks , tears, or holes . The <br /> rubber should be flexible, not stiff. Also check the lens for <br /> cracks . <br /> 4 . All straps and buckles must be attached. Check straps for <br /> elasticity and work serrations . <br /> 5 . Check the exhalation valve located near the chin between the <br /> cartridges . <br /> • Unsnap the cover . <br /> . Lift the valve and inspect the seat and valve for cracks, <br /> tears, dirt, and distortion. <br /> . Replace the cover . It should spin freely. <br />
