Seal or close outside container. <br /> 10 . 1. 1 Marking/Labeling <br /> Sample containers must have a completed sample identification tag <br /> and the outside container must be marked "Environmental Sample. " <br /> The appropriate side of the container must be marked "This End <br /> Up" and arrows should be drawn accordingly. No DOT marking and <br /> labeling is required. <br /> 10 . 1 . 2 Shi22inq Papers <br /> No DOT shipping papers are required. <br /> 10 .1. 3 Transportation <br /> There are no DOT restrictions on mode of transportation. <br /> 10 . 2 Hazardous Samples <br /> Samples known or expected to contain hazardous materials must be <br /> considered hazardous substance samples and transported according <br /> to the following requirements : <br /> 1 . If the material in the sample is known or can be identified, <br /> package, mark, label, and ship according to the specific instruc- <br /> tions for that material ( if it is listed) in the DOT Hazardous <br /> Materials Table (see Appendix) , 49 CFR 172 . 101 . <br /> 2 . For samples of hazardous substances of unknown content, <br /> select the appropriate transportation category according to the <br /> DOT Hazardous Materials Classification Table, a priority system <br /> of transportation categories ( 49 CFR 173 . 2 ) . <br /> Ship samples classified as hazardous according to DOT regulations: <br /> for the appropriate classification. <br />
