- <br /> -14- <br /> 9 . 3 . 3 Operation <br /> 1. Turn the MODE SELECTOR control knob to BATT TEST position and <br /> read the condition of the battery on the meter dial . Recharge <br /> batteries if necessary. Note : do not recharge unless the bat- <br /> tery is almost completely discharged. <br /> 2 . Turn the MODE SELECTOR control to the desired operating <br /> range. <br /> 3 . Allow a 10-minute warmup period with the instrument in same <br /> position (orientation) as it is to be used in service. <br /> 4. Read and record the results . <br /> 10.0 Sample Shipping <br /> Samples collected should be classified as either environmental or <br /> hazardous material (or waste) samples . A distinction must be <br /> made between the two types in order to determine the appropriate <br /> procedures for transportation. <br /> The sample tag should be legibly written and completed with an <br /> indelible pencil or waterproof ink. The information should also <br /> be recorded in a log book . As a minimum, it should include: <br /> 1. Exact location of sample. <br /> 2. Time and date sample was collected. <br /> 3 . Name of sampler and witnesses ( if necessary) . <br /> 4 . Project codes, sample station number, and identifying code <br /> ( if necessary) . <br /> 5 . Type of sample ( if known) . <br /> 6. Tag number ( if sequential tag system is used) . <br /> 7 . Laboratory number ( if applicable) . <br /> 8 . Any other pertinent information. <br /> 10 . 1 Environmental Samples <br /> Environmental samples must be packaged and shipped according to <br /> the following procedure: <br /> 1. Place sample container, properly identified and with a sealed <br /> lid, in a polyethylene bag, and seal bag. <br />
