HAZARDOUS WASTE MANAGEMENT PERFORMANCE REPORT
SITE NAME
Applied Aerospace Structures Corp .
3437 S . Airport Way
P . O . Box 6189
Stockton, CA 95206
San Joaquin County
SIC CODE
3728
QUANTITY OF WASTE
See Figure 9
HAZARDOUS WASTE MANAGEMENT APPROACHES
Wastewater treatment
Overspray occurs when rinsing parts coming out of the rinse tanks . In an effort to
prevent overspray, a wall with rain gutters was installed to capture the overspray . This
minimizes the amount of overspray accumulating on the pit floor thus reducing the
amount being sent to the chromium treatment unit . Low flow nozzles on hoses used to
rinse parts in the conversion coating areas also continue to be used . Hazardous Waste
Management training was also conducted to inform employees about minimizing
discharges to the sumps and process rinse waters .
Graphite pre-preg
The current hazardous waste management approach is off- site disposal . When projects
require the use of large amounts of graphite pre-preg, analyses will be performed to
determine if the material is a hazardous waste . If the material is non-hazardous , it will
reduce the amount needing disposal . Use of the plycutter to minimize waste will
continue . Hazardous Waste Management training will continue on an annual basis .
Phosphoric acid solution
The current hazardous waste management approach is off-site treatment and disposal .
This is a waste stream that occurs periodically when the acid becomes spent . Frequency
of disposal was usually greater than every 4 years , however, the installation of the wall
and rain gutters to capture overspray, has reduced the amount of overspray requiring
wastewater treatment but has increased the amount requiring disposal . Hazardous Waste
Management training will continue on an annual basis . No other source reduction
measures were implemented .
I
