Sulfuric acid solution The current hazardous waste management approach is off- site treatment and disposal . This is a waste stream that normally occurs every 12- 18 months when the acid becomes spent . But now, one of our customers has tightened the limits on the copper concentration of the solution, requiring more frequent changeouts . For this reason, monthly changeouts occur to prevent the buildup of copper in the solution. Hazardous Waste Management training will continue on an annual basis . No other source reduction measures were implemented . Solvent contaminated debris The current hazardous waste management approach is off- site disposal . The type of solvent and type of wipes are required by customer specifications . Parts must be cleaned prior to bonding, painting, etc . so it is performed throughout the manufacturing areas . With larger parts requiring solvent wiping , more surface area must be cleaned , increasing the generation of solvent contaminated debris . Annual Hazardous Waste Management training will continue . No other source reduction measures were implemented . EFFECTS OF WASTE MANAGEMENT APPROACHES Wastewater treatment The installation of the wall and rain gutter in late 2018 has yet to reduce the amount of wastewater requiring treatment . An increase of 3 , 882 pounds of wastewater was generated compared to 2014 . A decrease should be realized in the next report . Graphite pre -preg There was 660 pounds less of the graphite pre-preg waste that was generated in 2018 than in 2014 . This could be the result of using the plycutter, but most likely was due to the analytical results indicating that the material was non-hazardous reducing the amount being disposed as hazardous waste . Phosphoric acid solution Despite the installation of the wall and rain gutters to capture overspray when rinsing parts , 16 ,225 pounds less were generated compared to 2014 . This could be the result of the installation of a smaller tank ( 5 ,400 gallons compared to the current 3500 gallon tank) . It will be further evaluated in the Source Reduction Plan for 2022 and we ' ll be able to better determine if the reduction was the result of the smaller tank . Deoxidizer solution Since one of our customers tightened the copper concentration limits , we ' ve been required to change out the solution more frequently .
