avoided having the need to have 2 tanks of deoxidizer solution running, while the "new"
solution gets qualified to use . If we remove less than a 1 /3 of the solution, we do not
have to requalify the solution . But we generated 52 ,033 pounds more of the solution as a
result compared to 2014 .
Since the deoxidizer solution is a heated tank, unlike the phosphoric acid tank, which is
not heated , the deoxidizer solution is not affected by the wall and rain gutters which
capture the overspray .
Solvent contaminated debris
Solvent wiping prior to bonding, priming, etc , is required by customer specifications .
We ' re doing more projects with larger parts and as a result more surface area must be
solvent wiped . 3 , 883 more pounds of solvent contaminated debris was generated in 2018
compared to 2014 .
FACTORS AFFECTING MAJOR WASTE STREAMS
Wastewater treatment
Since the wall and rain gutters were installed late in 2018 , we hope to see significant
reductions in the amount of wastewater being treated compared to 2014 .
Graphite pre-prep
As we grow the business and more graphite pre-preg is required to make larger parts ,
more orders with minimum buys may increase the amount of hazardous waste that is
generated . Longer lead times to receive the materials may also cause us to purchase more
than necessary and resulting in an increase .
Phosphoric acid solution
The installation of a wall and rain gutters to capture overspray reduces the amount of
wastewater entering the wastewater treatment unit, but it can also affect the tank levels in
the phosphoric acid solution . Since it is an unheated tank, the tank fills up and requires
solution removal to prevent overfilling of the tank .
Deoxidizer solution
This waste was typically generated every 1248 months when the acid becomes spent .
But since one of our customers tightened the limits on the copper levels , we have decided
to perform monthly changeouts to keep the levels below the maximum allowed . This
allows us to operate without the need to requalify the tank solution.
Solvent contaminated debris
