Project No.4-419-0381
August 29,2019
Page No. 5
• Fire extinguishers are in their assigned places;
• Fire extinguishers are not blocked or hidden;
• Fire extinguishers are mounted properly for easy release;
• Pressure gauges show adequate pressure;
• Pin and seals are in place;
• Fire extinguishers show no visual signs of damage or abuse; and
• Nozzles are free of blockage.
If you find any signs that might lead you to believe that there could be a problem with the fire extinguisher,
immediately report your findings to the Project Manager.
2.4 Chemical Hazards
Field team personnel may be exposed to chemical hazards during all activities. The chemical hazards
include:
• Petroleum hydrocarbons,primarily gasoline,diesel,and oil-range hydrocarbons and associated fuel
additives(benzene,toluene,ethylbenzene,xylenes,MTBE);
• Volatile organic compounds; and
• Toxic and carcinogenic organic compounds.
The likely exposure pathways are inhalation and skin contact.
2.5 Climatic Stress
Field team personnel may be exposed to climatic stress due to temperature extremes,storms,lightning,and
high winds during outside activities. In addition to climatic stress, high temperatures will increase the
volatility of some toxic and carcinogenic compounds thereby increasing the potential for inhalation. High
wind will increase the potential for physical and chemical hazards by blowing objects around and creating
airborne particulates,mists,and spills.
2.6 Ergonomic Hazards
The interaction of personnel with their working environment at this site may present potential ergonomic
hazards, such as incorrect lifting, equipment vibration,or improper body positioning.
2.7 Acoustical Hazards
Field team personnel may be exposed to excessive noise created by the surrounding investigation activities.
2.8 Biological Hazards
Sources of biological hazards include bacteria,viruses,insects,plants,birds,animals,and humans.These
sources can cause a variety of health effects ranging from skin irritation and allergies to infections (e.g.,
tuberculosis, AIDS), cancer, and so on. The biological hazards that may be encountered during this
project are:
• Hantavirus;
• Histoplasmosis;
• Ticks (Lyme Disease);
• Fire Ants;
• Psittacosis;
• Stinging Insects;
• Rabies;
SALEM
engineering group. inc.
