Project No.4-419-0381
August 29,2019
Page No.8
• Physical Hazards;
• Electrical Hazards;
• Fire/Explosion Hazards;
• Chemical Hazards;
• Climatic Stress;
• Ergonomic Hazards;
• Acoustical Hazards; and
• Biological Hazards.
Procedures to safely address each of these hazards are described below:
3.3.1 Physical Hazards
The personal protective equipment (PPE) is designed to protect field team personnel from most physical
hazards expected at the work site. However,field team personnel should be aware of the potential physical
hazards and remain alert during field work.The following procedures will be implemented to minimize the
potential for injury from physical hazards:
• Keep all support vehicles and unnecessary equipment outside of the work zone;
• Store and secure all equipment in the work zone until use is required;
• Practicing proper lifting and carrying techniques; and
• Practicing proper"house cleaning"procedures.
3.3.2 Electrical Hazards
The potential exists for field team personnel to encounter electrical hazards during this project. The
following procedures will be implemented to minimize the potential for injury from electrical hazards:
• Before excavation commences at each location,obtain assurance from appropriate utility company
personnel,that below ground lines are absent at that location;
• Before raising or extending any boom or out riggers on heavy equipment, look for overhead lines;
• Stop excavation if red concrete is encountered. This is an indication that there is a buried electrical
line; and
• Before handling and installing extended lengths of pipe, beware of possible overhead electrical
lines that may be hit.If needed,cut the length of the pipe into shorter pieces to eliminate the hazard.
3.3.3 Fire/Explosion Hazards
Although unlikely, the potential exists for field team personnel to encounter fire/explosion hazards during
environmental activities. Due to the flammable nature of organic vapors,possible ignition sources will be
kept out of the work zone:
• Matches and lighters are not allowed in the work zone; and
• Internal combustion engines must not be operated in the work zone while contaminated solids or
liquids might be brought to the surface; alternatively,they must be equipped with spark arresters.
The following additional precautions will be implemented to minimize the potential for fire or explosion:
• A geophysical survey will be performed in the vicinity of the proposed drilling locations to identify
and clear utilities that may not have been marked by Underground Service Alert;
• If fire,smoke,or heat emanate from the excavation,the field team personnel will use a fire extinguisher
as needed;work will not recommence until the signs of fire or explosion have disappeared;and
Ll SALEM
engineering group. inc.
