.Interim Soil Remediation Work Plan
Former MEL BOKIDES PETROLEUM - LINDEN
8203 East Highway 26, Stockton, California
1.0. INTRODUCTION
At the request of Mr. Nick Bokides of Mel Bokides Petroleum, Advanced Geo Environmental,
Inc.(AGE) has prepared the enclosed interim soil remediation work plan for the property located at
8203 East Highway 26,Stockton,California. The plan details the design and operation of a soil vapor
extraction (SVE) remediation system at the site for a period of six months. The location of the site
is illustrated on Figure I and a plan of the site is illustrated on Figure 2.
AGE proposes to install an SVE system to reduce petroleum hydrocarbon mass from the petroleum
hydrocarbon-impacted area at the site. The vertical and lateral extent of impacted soil has been
documented (Section 2.0.), and due to: 1) the extended depth of the impacted-soil, delineated from
the previous soil remediation efforts (excavations); 2) the presence and distribution of MTBE; and
3) current site limitations (buildings and property lines), SVE may be the only effective remedial
option for the site within the required regulatory framework.
This work plan is prepared at the request of the San Joaquin County Environmental Health
Department (EHD) by letter dated 10 May 2002, and is in accordance with Central Valley Regional
Water Quality Control Board(CVRWQCB) guidelines for the investigation of underground storage
tank (UST) sites.
2.0. BACKGROLND
A gasoline station and mini-mart formerly occupied the site. The site is bounded on the north by a
residential property, on the east by Alpine Road and on the south by State Highway 26. commercial
properties are located east and west of the site.
Three USTs and associated piping and a dispenser island were removed from the site on 07 May
1999. High concentrations of petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as gasoline (TPH-g), volatile
aromatics(benzene, toluene, ethyl benzene and xylenes: BTEX)and the fuel oxygenating compounds
methyl tertiary butyl ether(MTBE) and tertiary butanol(TBA) were detected in selected soil samples
collected from the former UST excavation.
On 21 March 2000, 195 metric tons of impacted soil was over-excavated and disposed from the
former UST location by AGE. Analytical results of selected soil samples detected the presence of
TPH_g at a maximum concentration of 23,000 mg/kg; BTEX compounds at concentrations ranging
from 56 mg./kg of benzene to 2,900 mgl'kg of xylenes, and MTBE at a maximum concentration of 140
mg/kg. In addition, tcrt-amyl methyl ether (TAME) and TBA were detected at maximum
concentrations of 9.2 mg/kg and 6. 1 mg./kg, respectively. The highest concentrations of petroleum
hydrocarbons compounds were detected in samples collected fi•om the western wall of the former
Advanced Geo Environmental.Inc.
