Health and Safety Plan for
Delineation and Destruction of Well B-1
0 Sturdy work gloves, as needed.
Respirators will be stored in clean containers when not in use. Respirator cartridges will be
replaced in accordance with the following change-out schedule.
Type of Cartridge Cartridge Change-out Schedule
Particulate(i.e., HEPA) At least weekly or sooner if the employee detects an increase in breathing resistance.
This will occur as the filter becomes loaded with particulate matter.
Sorbent(i.e.,organic vapor) At the end of each week's use or sooner if the employee detects an abnormal odor or
other indicator.
Personnel who wear air-purifying respirators must be trained in their use and must have
successfully passed a qualitative respirator fit test and medical evaluation within the last 12
months in accordance with and 29 CFR 1910.134.
4.2 Specific Action Levels
If site monitoring data indicate that elevated concentrations do exist in the breathing zone, then
corrective action will be taken to ensure the safety of the site workers. The breathing zone will be
monitored using a photo-ionization detector (PID). In the table below, "sustained" refers to a
consistent reading lasting 5 seconds or more.
Activity Action Level Level of Respiratory Protection
Drilling, sampling, managing Sustained PID reading of 2 to Sample the air using a 1,1-dichloroethene(1,1-DCE)
samples and IDW 25 parts per million(ppm) Draeger®tube(or equivalent). If 1,1-DCE is not detected
above background above 5 ppm, work may continue without additional
respiratory protection.
If 1,1-DCE is detected at or above 5 ppm, respirators
shall be used to reduce exposure.
Drilling, sampling, managing Sustained PID reading of 25 to Workers will don respirators to reduce exposures.
samples and IDW 50 ppm above background Workers will use Draeger®tubes as available and record
results but will maintain respirator use until PID readings
are less than 25 ppm above background for at least 30
consecutive minutes, provided 1,1-DCE levels are below
5 ppm.
Drilling, sampling, managing Sustained PID reading of 51 Stop work and evacuate to a safer breathing zone. PPE
samples and IDW ppm or more above and potential exposures must be reevaluated.
background
10275-4
D U D E K 18 June 2017
