Unload drill rods and <br /> augers layer by layer. Be prepared for sudden shifting <br /> 2. Back Strain when tailing rod sections. Keep a wide base and secure <br /> footing. <br /> 2. Use proper lifting techniques when manually handling <br /> rods, augers and tools. Use mechanical equipment <br /> during lifting whenever possible. Use the buddy system <br /> when lifting tools and supplies. <br /> Hoisting Operations 1. Struck By 1. Never engage the rotary clutch until all personnel and M <br /> equipment are clear. Never leave the brake unattended <br /> when engaged. Drill rods and auger sections should not <br /> be picked up or dropped suddenly. Do not lift more than <br /> 10 feet of augers or one joint of pipe between tool breaks. <br /> Test the brakes daily. Use caution when drilling in wet or <br /> damp conditions. Suspend drilling activities if moisture <br /> comprises the performance of the braking mechanism. <br /> Catline Operations 1. Struck By 1. Do not use more wraps than necessary to lift the load. M <br /> More than one layer of wraps on the cathead is not <br /> allowed. Personnel should not stand near, step over or <br /> go under the cathead rope under tension. The cathead <br /> must be kept clear of obstructions and entanglements. <br /> Never leave the cathead unattended when engaged. Do <br /> not stand under the object being lifted with the cathead. <br /> Derrick Operations 1. Fall 1. The mast should be lowered, if possible, to make repairs M <br /> or to free up entangled wire rope or obstructions. If the <br /> mast must be ascended while upright, a proper ladder <br /> 2. Weather safety climbing device or safety block system must be <br /> used in conjunction with a full body harness. <br /> 2. The drill rig operator must be aware of weather conditions <br /> and terminate operations in the event of <br /> unsafe conditions. <br /> Auger Operations 1. Struck By 1. Use a long handled flat head shovel when removing auger L <br /> cuttings. Stay away from the augers when rotating. <br /> Prevent shovel from lodging into the augers and kicking <br /> out. Do not wear loose clothing when working with <br /> augers. <br />
