PRE-FIELD WORK ACTIVITIES
A health and safety plan will be prepared in accordance with Occupational Safety and Health
Guidance Manual for Hazardous Waste Site Activities (National Institute for Occupational Safety
and Health Administration, U.S. Coast Guard and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, 1985).
Prior to mobilization, the area to advance two soil probe borings will be clearly marked and a utility
clearance obtained through Underground Service Alert.
3.2. EXCAVATION OF ILLEGAL DISPOSAL AREA
The area identified by the PHS-EHD as having been utilized for illegal dumping of waste oil and
solvents will be excavated to determine if a shallow disposal well is present. Excavation to a depth
of no greater than 5 feet below surface grade (bsg) is anticipated.
3.3. SOIL SAMPLE COLLECTION AND ANALYSIS
Initially, AGE proposes to advance at least one soil probe boring at the site. The boring will be in
the vicinity of the former UST. A second boring may be advanced near the shallow disposal well,
if found. Proposed probe boring locations are illustrated in Figure 2.
The proposed probe boring locations may be modified due to field observations or additional borings
may be advanced with approval by the PHS-EHD. Each proposed boring will be advanced to 15 feet
bsg or until the field observations (odor and staining), and field screening using an organic vapor
meter(OVM)indicate that petroleum hydrocarbon vapor is not present in the soil samples screened
from two consecutive five-foot intervals.
Soil samples will be collected from continuous cores beginning at 2 feet bsg extending to the total
boring depths. Field procedures for advancement of borings and collection of soil samples are
presented in Section 4.2. and 4.2.1.
Selected soil samples from each probe boring will be submitted for laboratory analysis with
concurrence of the FHS-EHD. The selected soil samples will be analyzed by a State of California
Advanced CeoEnvironmental,Inc.
