Diamond Pet Food Processors of Ripon California LLC January 31,2013
Combined Annual and Second-Half 2012 Groundwater Monitoring Report Page 3 of 6
Per WDR Order No.R5-2012-0105, the Clarifier became the new influent monitoring location
and the individual flows from Cogen and DP, as well as the dilution flows from deionized water
and groundwater were required to be metered separately, recorded daily, and reported monthly.
The new WDR also required influent samples to be analyzed monthly for biochemical oxygen
demand(BOD), pH, total nitrogen, EC, and TDS.
Table 5 presents monthly waste water and dilution water flows into the Clarifier. The total
recorded flow into the Clarifier in 2012 was 41,648,748 gallons. The maximum monthly
influent flow to the Clarifier was 7,591,527 gallons in December. December, however, was the
only month in 2012 that a complete data set of the individual flows entering the Clarifier were
recorded.
Table 6 presents influent(ASB-1 and Clarifier) analytical data for 2012.
Table 7 presents effluent(ASB-2) flows and analytical data for 2012.
Attachment B present influent data and Attachment C presents effluent data collected by DP
staff.
WASTE WATER TREATMENT FACILITY EVALUATION
The WWTF consists of a solids separation system, a Clarifier, two aeration stabilization basins
(ASB-1 and ASB-2), and 86 acres of percolation fields and orchards. During 2012, the system
was in good repair and functioned properly.
No nuisance conditions (odors) were reported and aerobic conditions (DO levels>1.0 mg/L)
prevailed in ASB-1 and ASB-2 throughout 2012 (Tables 6 and 7).
Assuming DP and Cogen produce their allowable average daily flows every month for 12
months, approximately 104,390,000 gallons of effluent would be produced. The actual volume
of water that will be treated and disposed through the WWTF in 2013, however, will depend on
the number of days DP and the Cogen operate.
PROGRESS IN IMPLEMENTING THE SALINITY AND NUTRIENT EVALUATION AND MINIMIZATION
PLAN
The Salinity and Nutrient Evaluation and Minimization Plan, has a requested submittal date of
December 31, 2013. The first progress report for implementing the plan will be submitted in
the annual groundwater monitoring report for 2014.
MANN-KENDALL ANALYSIS
Mann-Kendall Trend Analysis was perform for EC, TDS, chloride , and nitrate (as nitrogen)
concentrations in compliance wells OB-2, OB-4, OB-7, OB-8, OB-11, OB-19, OB-26, and 013-
28 were from April 2009 (the last full month of Neenah's paper production) to the present
(Attachment D). Table 4 (following text)presents the results of the trend analyses at the 95%
significance level. Trend analyses for TDS show more improvements in water quality in the
southeastern part of the site, reflecting application of the higher quality surface or groundwater
to the east percolation field. The trend analyses also show continued degradation of
groundwater quality in the northeastern part of the site beneath the eucalyptus grove.
SITE DESCRIPTIONS AND OPERATIONS
DIAMOND PET FOOD PROCESSORS OF RIPON CALIFORNIA LLC.
DP uses dry ingredients, oils, fats, and fresh meat to manufacture its products.
