Diamond Pet Food Processors of Ripon,LLC June 30,2011
Report of Waste Discharge Page 14 of 17
remain out of compliance, although showing improving quality. The net mass of TDS to the
semiperched aquifer would be almost 10 times less than the levels imparted from the operation of the
previous paper mill plus cogen(about 900 lbs/day vs. the previous 8,000 lbs/day).
ENGINEERING AND CHEMICAL PROPERTIES
The surface soil across the project site is a sandy silt that should be suitable for foundations and
embankments if properly developed against the potential for compressibility and liquefaction. The
underlying soils include sands, gravel, and clays. Historically, the soils have supported extensive
structures and the existing water-related facilities without adverse effects. There is no evidence that
the site soils cannot continue to support such activities without adverse effects.
STABILITY ANALYSIS AND FAULT IDENTIFICATION
According to California Division of Mines and Geology (CDMG)Note 43: "A maximum probable
earthquake is the maximum earthquake that is likely to occur during a 100-year interval. It is to be
regarded as a probable occurrence, not as an assured event that will occur at a specific time."
Maximum probable earthquakes are calculated for faults having displacement during Holocene (less
than 10,000 years old) time. There are no mapped or observed active, potentially active, or inactive
faults beneath the property. According to the Seismic Shaking Hazard Map of California14, the peak
ground acceleration (10%probability of being exceeded in 50 years) is 0.2 g. The site is within
California Seismic Zone 3.
LAND AND WATER USE(§21750(H))
Land use within one mile of the project site, includes industrial/commercial immediately to the north
and west, riparian land immediately south (along the Stanislaus River), and residential and
agricultural uses beyond that.
Domestic water in Ripon is supplied by the City of Ripon, from surface and groundwater; Figure 2
shows the locations of the nearest City of Ripon production wells.
14 Peterson,M.,et. al, 1999,Seismic Shaking Hazard Maps of California,California Division of Mines and Geology,Map
Sheet 48.
010107.00, Task I Lawrence&Associates
w:Iclientsl diamond pet foods1010107.00-ripon rowdldiamondpet_rowdjune2011_draft.docx
