January 29,2011
Page 2
ASB-2 was 643 mg/L (January), which is below the 713 mg/L water-quality
protection standard (WQPS) for TDS established for the semiperched aquifer.
• Groundwater chemistry under portions of the site does not meet water-quality
protection limits established for this site, although remediation activities at the site
are ongoing, and groundwater quality is continuing to improve.
Violations Since Last Report
No violations have occurred at the site since the submittal of the previous groundwater-
monitoring report. NP is currently in a corrective action monitoring program per revised
Waste Discharge Requirements (WDR), Order 5-01-148, dated 14 September 2009.
TDS concentrations in the groundwater under portions of the site are above water quality
protection standards (WQPS) established by the California Regional Water Quality
Control Board, Central Valley Region (CVRWQCB) in correspondence dated August 21,
2006. Corrective actions intended to remedy this situation are discussed below. Table 1
presents WQPS for the site.
Table 1
Water Quality Protection Standards
COC Semiperched Upper Intermediate
Aquifer Aquifer Aquifer
Bicarbonate 307 mg/L 482 mg/L 315 mg/L
Calcium 51 mg/L 209 mg/L 49 mg/L
Chloride 178 mg/L 197 mg/L 68 mg/L
Electrical 1242 µmhos/cm 1580 µmhos/cm 760 µmhos/cm
Conductance
Magnesium 26 mg/L 43 mg/L 8.8 mg/L
Nitrate 4.3 mg/L 4.7 mg/L 5.7 m L
pH 6.5-8.5 6.5-8.5 6.5-8.5
Potassium 2.6 mg/L 10 mg/L 6.8 mg/L
Sodium 184 mg/L 89 mg/L 100 mg/L
Sulfate 111 mg/L 150 mg/L 31 mg/L
TDS 1 713 mg/L 1 1030 mg/L 470 mg/L
