k19 KLEINFELDER
Four background soil samples (see Plate 2) will be collected for analytical result
comparison to concentrations of COPC detected at the site. Each of the four discrete
background soil samples are proposed along the eastern border of the site near a
vacant field. If right of entry can be acquired, soil sampling is proposed offsite and
approximately 75 east of the eastern property boundary. The background soil sample
locations were selected in the same soil type as the site (based on a Soil Survey of San
Joaquin County, United States Department of Agriculture, October 1992). The soil type
is summarized in Section 4.1, Table 2. Soil at the site and east of the site (proposed
background sampling locations) were mapped as Jacktone-Urban land complex (See
Appendix D). The adjacent property to the north is mapped as Urban Land and the
western boundary is Stanislaus Street, beyond which is commercial/industrial sites.
Residential housing is noted to the south. Offsite background sampling to the east will
require permission and right-of-entry agreements with the land owners and Delta
Plating prior to collection of these background samples. Otherwise background
sampling is proposed onsite at approximately equidistant locations along the eastern
site boundary.
Kleinfelder proposes one surface sample from each of the proposed sample locations
within the Plating Room be analyzed for one or more of the seven COPC. Five soil
samples (S2 through S5) and four background samples (BGS-1 through BGS-4) will be
analyzed for the following::
• Copper, Nickel, Aluminum and Chrome III by EPA Method 6010
• Cn by EPA Method 9010
• PH by EPA Method 9045
• Cr+6 by EPA Method 71
Six of the 26 soil samples (S6 through S11) will be analyzed for the following:
• Chrome III by EPA Method 6010
• Cr+6 by EPA Method 719
Fifteen of the remaining soil samples (S16 through S26) will be analyzed for various
COPC as shown on Table 7.
57252.T02/ST05R999/DH:Iv Page 15 of 29
©2005 Kleinfelder, Inc.
