k9 KLEINEELDER
6.3. WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANT SOIL SAMPLING AND ANALYSES
A total of 21 soil samples will be collected from 9 soil borings advanced in the
Treatment Area (see Plate 4). Two or three soil samples will be collected at each
boring location at depths ranging from of 0 to 12 inches (At interface between
concrete/aggregate base and soil) to 112 inches bgs. Sampling depths for locations
adjacent to vault/subsurface containment areas are proposed at deeper sampling
depths as opposed to surface process equipment/tanks. For specific sampling depth
intervals of each sample location please refer to the following Table 8 (Page 22) and
Plate 4. Three boring locations (TP-4, TP-5 and TP-6) are proposed near two relatively
large holding tanks (Tank 6 and 7). One boring each is proposed near a metal
processing tank, filter press and batch tanks (Borings TP-1, TP-9 and TP-2,
respectively). One soil sample each at depths of 66 to 72 inches bgs from borings TP-
1, TP-4, TP-5 TP-6 and one soil sample (0 to 12 inches bgs) from borings TP-2 and TP-
3 will be submitted for the following analyses:
• Copper, Nickel, Aluminum and Chrome III by EPA Method 6010
• Cn by EPA Method 9010
• PH by EPA Method 9045
• Cr+6 by EPA Method 7199
Subsurface soil samples at depths of 42 to 48 and or 108 to 112 inches will be put on
hold pending the shallow soil sampling results (See Table 8).
Two soil samples will be collected at boring location TP-7 advanced near a Cr+6
Process tank vault. The shallow sample collected at depths of 66 to 72 bgs will be
analyzed for the following:
• Chrome III by EPA Method 6010
• Cr+6 by EPA Method 7199
The deeper soil sample collected at depths of 108 to 112 inches bgs will be put on hold
pending the shallow soil sampling results.
Three soil samples will be collected at boring location TP-8 advanced near a surface
sulfuric acid tank. The shallowest soil samples collected at depths of 0 to 12 inches
bgs will be analyzed for the following:
PH by EPA Method 9045
Two subsurface soil samples at depths of 42 to 48 and 108 to 112 inches will be put on
hold pending the shallow soil sampling results
57252.T02/ST05R999/DH:ly Page 16 of 29
©2005 Kleinfelder, Inc.
