12 July 2010
AGE-NC Project No. 10-1792
HAND AUGER ADVANCEMENT AND SOIL SAMPLE COLLECTION
AGE proposes to advance a total of three soil borings at the site. One soil boring will be advanced
near each clarifier location to a depth of approximately 10 feet below surface grade(bsg);one boring
will be advanced to approximately 5 feet bsg immediately adjacent to the former parts washing unit,
at the southwest corner of the automotive repair facility. All borings will be advanced using a 2-inch
diameter hand-auger. Approximate boring locations are illustrated on Figure 2.
Samples will be collected from each boring at 2-foot or 5-foot intervals. Samples will be collected
using a metric soil sampler and stainless steel sleeves.Upon sample retrieval, the ends of a selected
sleeve will be covered with Teflon sheets, capped and sealed with tape. Appropriately sealed and
labeled samples will be placed in a chilled container under ice and transported under chain-of-
custody procedure to a California Department of Public Health(CDPH)-certified laboratory. Each
sample sleeve will be labeled with the boring designation, depth, time, date and sampler's initials.
Selected samples will be analyzed by Cal Tech Environmental Laboratories, a CDPH-certified
laboratory, for the following constituents:
• Total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH)by EPA Method 8015 Modified; and
• Volatile organic compounds (VOCs)by EPA Method 8020 or 8260.
EQUIPMENT DECONTAMINATION
Prior to use, all tools used for sample collection will be thoroughly rinsed with clean water after
being washed with a solution ofAlconox. All hand-auger tools will be cleaned prior to advancement
at each boring location.
BORING ABANDONMENT
All soil borings will be permanently sealed to prevent vertical migration of potential contaminants.
Soil borings shall be abandoned by backfilling with a portland cement slurry from the total depth to
surface grade.
REPORT PREPARATION
Upon completion of field work and receipt of final laboratory analysis, a brief report will be
Advanced GenEnvirunme.W,Inc.
