15634 STEINEGUL ROAD
PAGE
PHS/EHD staff also noted the existence of a septic tank on the premise. PHS/EHD
recommends checking Figure 2 for accuracy, and that the septic tank properly located
be included in the maps of all future reports.
Soil& Groundwater Investigation Interim Report recommended installing a soil vapor
extraction well in order to conduct a pilot study to determine the feasibility of soil
vapor extraction alternative remediation. PHS/EHD recommends additional soil
vapor extraction wells be installed in the upcoming work. A more aggressive approach
to mitigate the contamination should be considered due to the close proximity of the
plume to the domestic well on site and the fact that there is only 50 feet of bentonine
seal around the casing of the domestic well. PHS/EHD strongly recommends the
maximum and most urgent effort in the investigation and remediation of this site to
prevent contamination of the domestic well.
A work plan that will install vapor extraction wells and also define the vertical and
horizontal extent of the contamination previously discussed in a letter dated May 28,
1999, should be submitted to PHS/EHD no later than September 20, 1999. Work
should commence no later than October 31, 1999. Please be advised that once the
vertical and horizontal extent of contamination has been defined a Corrective Action
Plan must be submitted that has a feasibility study of at least two remedial alternatives
and that contamination both above and below the groundwater must be addressed.
If you have any questions please feel free to contact Jeffrey Wong at (209)468-0335.
Donna Heran, RENS, Director
Environmental Health Division
i
Jeffry RENS — MargaretTagorio, REHS
LOP/Site Mitigation Unit IV Supervisor
C: CRWQCB, Central Valley Region-Mark List
C: BSK& Associates-John C.
