Using EPA Method 8260, analytical results of
ground water samples collected from Monitor Well #1 (MW-1), MW-2, and MW-4 at
the above-referenced site were all non-detect below the detection limits of 5 parts per
billion (ppb) of Methyl tert-butyl Ether (MTBE). The analytical results of the samples
collected on February 5, 1999, were 200, 890, and 300 ppb of MTBE for MWl, 2, and
4, respectively, using EPA Method 8015/8020. Trace MTBE has been detected using
EPA Method 8260B in the soil samples collected from Boring 2 at depths ranging from
31 feet below surface grade (bsg) to 86 feet bsg. Although EPA Method 8015/8020 can
be a source of false positive in the quantification of MTBE, PHS/EHD recommends
continued testing for oxygenates using EPA Method 8260.
A "Conclusions/Recommendations" section is included in the Soil fr Groundwater
Investigation Interim Report dated May 18, 1999 prepared by BSK. No summary,
discussions, or recommendations based on the findings were included in the Monitoring
Report Second Quarter 1999. PHS/EHD recommends such a section be included in all
future reports.
There is a conflict between the location of B-1 represented in Figure 2 dated July 1999,
which was included in Monitoring Report Second Quarter 1999 and Soil Fr Groundwater
Investigation Interim Report, and the location of B-1 represented in Figure 3, which was
included in Phase II- Site Assessment Report of Findings dated June 7, 1997 prepared by
WHF, Inc. Figure 3 indicated B-1 to be located between the west end of the former
550 gallon underground storage tank (UST) and the east side of the former 1,000 gallon
UST. In contrast, Figure 2 indicated B-1 to be located east of the east end of the
former 500 gallon UST and less than 15 feet west of the utility pole. According to field
observation by PHS/EHD staff, Bl is approximately halfway between MW-2 and B-2.
A Division of San Joaquin Countv Health Care Services
