(ATC) and has the following comments.
The Report documents the results of five cone penetrometor test borings (CPT-4 through
CPT-9) advanced at your site in April and May of 2008. Grab groundwater samples were
collected from varying depths of the aquifer beneath and surrounding your site in an attempt
to define the vertical and lateral extent of the dissolved petroleum hydrocarbon
contamination. Laboratory analytical results reported 6.4 micrograms per liter of 1,2-dichloro
ethane in CPT-6, collected at 130 feet below surface grade (bsg). This boring was located to
define the vertical extent of the contamination reported in monitoring well MW-6, which has a
screened interval extending from 90-95 feet bsg. ATC recommends installation of one deep,
discretely screened groundwater monitoring well to confirm the detection reported in the
sample from CPT-6. The EHD agrees with this recommendation.
The Report discusses options for remediation of the groundwater contamination and
recommends evaluation of insitu chemical oxidation by conducting a bench scale test.
Please proceed with submittal of a work plan for installation of the proposed deep, discretely
screened groundwater monitoring well. Include in the work plan collection of soil samples
both for confirmation of the effectiveness of the soil vapor extraction remediation that has
been in operation since September 2005, and to conduct bench scale test for insitu chemical
oxidation. The work plan is due for submittal no later than October 24, 2008. If you have any
questions please call Lori Duncan at (209) 468-0337.
Sincerely,
Lori Duncan, REHS Nuel C.
