Remedial Well and Soil Vapor Extraction System Installation Report 7
Ranch Market,23569,South Santa Fe Road,Riverbank,CA _ __ November 27,2002
lines while backfilling the trenches with imported sand. The SVE lines were stubbed up into
the remediation compound into a manifold that was connected to the 500 scfm catalytic
oxidizer, The 20 ozone sparge pipes were stubbed up into a manifold and connected to the 6
cfm ozone injection skid and generator, The location of piping runs and compound location
are shown on Figure 5. The layout of the remediation compound is shown on Figure 4.
Remedial trenching and piping activities were completed by August 31, 2002.
Soil generated during drilling and trenching activities was stockpiled onsite. On August 22,
2002, Manley and Sons Trucking hauled approximately 22 tons of non-hazardous soil to
Forward Landfill in Manteca, CA, for disposal. The non-hazardous waste manifest is
provided in Appendix F.
6.2 Soil Vapor Extraction and Ozone Sparge Remedial Equipment
Following installation of the remedial piping,ERG installed a remediation compound,
approximately 18 feet wide by 20 feet long, to house the remediation equipment. The
compound was built with a concrete slab floor and an 8-foot high perimeter fence with
protective bollards at the location shown on Figure 5. A catalytic oxidizer was installed for
the abatement of soil vapors extracted from the SVE wells. An ozone sparge generator was
installed within a protective shed in the compound for the abatement of petroleum
hydrocarbons dissolved in groundwater. A fan was installed in the shed to allow cooling of
the ozone generator and air compressor during operation. Details of the treatment process and
abatement equipment are provided below.
Soil vapors extract from the 10 SVE wells flow through individual underground pipes to the
remediation compound and into a water knockout tank. The vapors are treated with a Solleco
TCAT 500 catalytic oxidizer capable of a flow rate up to 500 standard cubic feet per minute.
The oxidizer is equipped with a SensaPhone 1104 Autodialer that automatically notifies
SECOR of any system shutdown. The treated vapors are emitted through an exhaust stack
approximately 12 inches square and 13 feet tall. The system operates under San Joaquin
Valley Air Pollution Control District (SJVAPCD)Permit to Operate Number N-4718-1-0.
Air samples will be collected monthly from the influent and effluent air streams to document
that the destruction efficiency remains high, SJVAPCD discharge limits are not exceeded, and
to track total mass of contaminants removed. An evaluation of system performance will be
summarized in the quarterly groundwater monitoring reports.
Ozone is injected into groundwater by an ARCE Systems, Inc. ozone generator, Model
Number HC-2.50. The ozone generator is equipped with a manifold and solenoid valves that
will be programmed to inject ozone into one ozone sparge well at a time for a set time period.
Ozone injection will chemically destroy gasoline adsorbed to soil and dissolved in
groundwater within the saturated zone. In addition, ozone injection will increase the
dissolved oxygen concentration in the groundwater, further stimulating biodegradation of the
gasoline range petroleum hydrocarbons dissolved in groundwater.
IARanCh Market-Riverbank\Reports\R6-Reined Well Install.doc SECOR International Incorporated
