San Joaquin Street
Stockton, CA 95201 W.O. 03733-008-001-0001
Subject: Response to 6 August 1997 Letter from Mary Meays
Dear Ms. Meays:
Enclosed please find a revised copy of Table A-2 as requested in your 6 August letter. We
would also like to clarify the surveying issue noted in the fifth paragraph of your letter. Two
surveys were conducted: 1) MW-1, MW-2, and MW-3 were surveyed relative to an arbitrary
benchmark by WESTON personnel and 2) MW-2A, MW-3A, MW-4, MW-5, MW-6, MW-7,
and MW-8 were surveyed by a licensed surveyor. No single well has been surveyed twice.
Since the location of the arbitrary benchmark is unknown, the 30 December 1988 groundwater
elevations for MW-1, MW-2, and MW-3 cannot be determined reliably. However, groundwater
elevations for all other wells can be used for constructing groundwater table contour maps and
determining changes in groundwater elevations over time. To avoid confusion in the future,
additional foot notes have been added to Table A-2 for MW-1, MW-2, and MW-3 groundwater
elevation measurements.
Please also note that the total depth of well MW-2 as measured during the last sampling event
was 37.40 ft below top of casing or approximately 37.5 ft below ground surface (bgs).
However, according to the MW-2 well log, the bottom of the screened interval is 45 ft bgs.
Therefore, the bottom of well MW-2 has likely collapsed and well MW-2 should be considered
for abandonment.
Please contact me at (510) 603-7917 if you have any questions.
Very truly yours,
ROY F.
