PHS/EHD has the prepared the following summary for your
information.
Groundwater Sampling
The frequency of sampling some monitoring wells were reduced to annually for MW5 and
semi-annually for MW4, MW6 and MW7, since groundwater contamination has not been
detected in those wells since October 1993. Sampling of MW2A will continue on a quarterly
basis. Monitoring wells, MW1 and MW3, have been destroyed and MW2 has been dry for
several years. Sampling of MW8 will be temporarily suspended until potential offsite sources
have been investigated.
Residual Soil Contamination
It was agreed that additional soil investigation was necessary to determine the southern and
eastern vertical extent of residual soil contamination so that the potential threat which may be
posed to groundwater can be evaluated. PHS/EHD agreed that, based on available
information, soil boring BH5 provides data to suggest that the western extent of soil
contamination has been defined.
PHS/EHD agreed that sufficient notification was not provided to the consultant at the time of
drilling so that soil samples would be collected beneath the water table. Technical issues
associated with sampling beneath free product were discussed; however resolution was not
achieved. PHS/EHD indicated that sampling beneath the groundwater may be required in the
future and that should free product be observed, the analytical results obtained from samples
collected, will be evaluated with consideration given to actual site conditions.
Groundwater Contamination
It was agreed that additional groundwater investigation was necessary to determine the
southern extent of groundwater contamination. PHS/EHD was informed that the collection of
a groundwater grab sample from a proposed soil boring would be evaluated and possibly
included in the work plan that will be submitted.
A Division of San Joaquin Counts Health Care Services
