145 South Sutter
Page 2
Groundwater Investigation
Groundwater contamination was detected in the samples collected from monitoring wells,
MW2A and MW8 (approximately 300 feet northeast of the site). Actually, free product
was observed during the installation of MW2A and reported during the sampling of
MW2A.
Table 2 also contained reporting errors with regards to groundwater sample results.
Actually, 3,300 ug/I toluene was detected in the duplicate sample from MW2A and the
820 ug/I TPH-g detected in MW8 should be noted to be an unidentified hydrocarbon
between the C6 - C8 range of hydrocarbons.
Also, note that the report failed to include field data sheets associated with the collection
of groundwater samples. As PHS/EHD has indicated on numerous occasions, field data
sheets should be submitted with all quarterly monitoring reports. Finally, the analytical
results obtained from all groundwater monitoring events should be tabulated so that
trends can be distinguished. Please prepare a table summarizing all groundwater
analytical results obtained to date for submittal in the next quarterly monitoring report.
The report included recommendations to continue quarterly monitoring and to drill
additional borings, one at least to be converted into a monitoring well. PHS/EHD
concurs that additional soil and groundwater investigation is necessary.
We would like to arrange a meeting to discuss the site, prior to the preparation a work
plan proposing the additional field work which is necessary to determine the distribution
of the residual soil and groundwater contamination.
Please contact Mary Meays at (209) 468-0337, if you have any questions or to schedule
a meeting to discuss the site.
Donna Heran, REHS, Director
Environmental Health Division
it
Mary Meays, Senior REHS Diane M.
