Groundwater Technology recommends
that immediate remedial operations be undertaken by installing a
double pump recovery and water treatment system. This system is
designed to control groundwater/contamination movement within the
area while removing free floating product and treating the
dissolved hydrocarbon contamination.
The following steps outline our proposed initial remedial
action and contamination assessment program:
I. Use the existing 4 inch well GT-4 as a small diameter
recovery well. Subsequent to extensive well development
the recovery well will be completed by the installation of
a small diameter double pump system. This system consists
of a water table depression pump to lower the water table
(form a cone of depression) around the recovery well to pull
product into the well and a product recovery pump to pump
the accumulated free product to a surface storage tank (See
Attachment 5) . A pump test will be conducted during system
start up to provide information on the subsurface hydrogeo-
'logic conditions at the site.
2. The pumped groundwater is expected to contain elevated
levels of hydrocarbons which will be treated initially by
carbon filtration prior to discharge. The water treatment
system may be changed to an air stripping unit at a future
date. The discharge of the treated groundwater to the
sanitary sewer system is currently being negotiated with the
county sanitation district.
