PUBLIC H)5ALTH SERVICES
PfN:..
SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY
ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH DIVISION
Karen Furst, M.D., M.P.H., Health Officer
304 East Weber Avenue, Third Floor * Stockton, CA 95202
209/468-3420
PETER LENZ C (DPDY
6465 PACIFIC AVE #134
STOCKTON CA 95207 JUN 2 5 2001
RE: Howard Lenz Property SITE CODE: 2182
1648 Shaw Road
Stockton CA 95215
San Joaquin County Public Health Services, Environmental Health Division (PHS/EHD)
has reviewed the Monitoring Well Installation and Quarterly Report— First Quarter 2001,
dated March 23, 2001 that was submitted by Advanced GeoEnvironmental, Inc. on your
behalf and has the following comments.
The report documents fieldwork that took place in February 2001 when four shallow
monitoring wells were installed to continue the investigation of the lateral extent of the
petroleum hydrocarbon contamination at this site. Soil samples for analysis were
collected during the drilling of the boreholes. The new wells, MW-4 through MW-7, were
developed on February 8, 2001 and sampled on February 9, 2001. Monitoring and
sampling of the older wells, MW-1 through MW-3, had taken place on January 25, 2001.
Analytical results from the soil samples indicate that the lateral extent of the soil
contamination has been defined. Soil analytical results from prior investigations indicate
that the bulk of the soil contamination exists at levels above 35 feet below surface grade
in the vicinity of the former underground storage tank location and south to MW-2.
Analytical results from the monitoring well samples indicate that the lateral extent of the
contaminant plume has been defined, but the vertical extent in the source area has not.
You are directed to submit to PHS/EHD a work plan to define the vertical extent of the
groundwater contamination at this site. Three soil vapor extraction wells have previously
been installed. Include in the work plan a proposal to perform pilot tests in preparation
for the development of a feasibility study. The work pian is due August 6, 2001.
If you have any questions or comments please call Lori Duncan at (209)468-0337.
Donna Heran, REHS, Director
Environmental Health Division
Lori Duncan, Senior REHS Dot Lofstrom, R.G.
LOP/Site Mitigation Unit IV Engineering Geologist
cc: Marty Hartzell, CVRWQCB
Brian Millman, AGE
A Division of San Joaquin County Health Care Services
