It is proposed to install the well to total depth
of approximately 100 feet bsg, with a screened interval from 90-100 feet bsg. SJC/EHDapproves
the installation of this well, but does not consider 10-foot soil sampling intervals to be sufficient to
properly place the deep well screen. Cross-sectional diagrams submitted with the work plan
indicate that silty sands and gravelly sands exist from 90-96 feet bsg. SJC/EHD recommends a
shorter sampling interval, or continuous coring, in the target zone to ensure screening the well
across the sand interval and to avoid penetrating hydrologic unit 3. Your consultant may want to
consider utilizing a 5-foot screen interval.
In their May 16, 2002 "Soil Vapor Extraction Pilot Test Report", AGE recommended that further
feasibility testing be completed at this site, and that a Problem Assessment Report(PAR)be
prepared. SJC/EHD agreed with these recommendations in correspondence dated June 17, 2002,
and directed the submittal of a work plan to include both the installation of the deep monitoring well
and further feasibility testing. The current work plan does not address the issue of feasibility
studies and/or testing.
Please proceed with submittal of a San Joaquin County well permit application and with scheduling
the installation of the approved well. The report of findings from the well installation can be
included in the PAR,which must be submitted to SJC/EHD within 60 days following receipt of all
analytical data from the investigation.
If you have any questions or comments please call Lori Duncan at(209)468-0337.
Donna Heran, REHS, Director
Environmental Health Department
Lori Duncan, Senior REHS Nuel C.
