2.0 SITE DESCRIPTION
Information concerning the subject property was obtained from a site reconnaissance conducted
by Ms. Gillian Evans of Dames & Moore's San Jose office on Monday, March 9, 1998,
interviews with representatives of the subject property owner, and review of the documents
referenced in this report.
2.1 PHYSICAL LOCATION AND DESCRIPTION OF PROPERTY
The subject property is located at 485 East Roth Road, French Camp, California. The property
consists of an approximate 4-acre parcel with one 6,200 square foot building and paved parking
areas. The subject property is positioned at the northwest corner of the intersection of East Roth
Road and Vallejo Court. The site building is of typical steel and concrete warehouse
construction with a small lobby/kitchen area and office space. The second floor of the building
contains office space, which is currently unused. Utilities for the overhead lights are supplied by
Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E). According to Mr. John Pedri of Lee & Associates the owner's
representative, water supply for the subject property is provided by an onsite groundwater
supply well. A site location map is presented as Figure 1 and a site plan is presented as Figure 2.
2.2 ENVIRONMENTAL SETTING
• Environmental characteristics including topography, geology, and hydrogeology were evaluated
based on site observations, published literature, and maps.
2.2.1 Topography
According to the United States Geological Survey 7.5 minute Topographic Quadrangle Map
"Lathrop Quadrangle", the elevation of the subject property is approximately 20 feet above mean
sea level (MSL). The surrounding area appears to be topographically level with a gradual slope
to the west. Based on this information, surface runoff is likely to flow downgradient, towards
the San Joaquin River.
2.2.2 Geology/Hydrogeology
The subject property is located within the Great Valley of California, a northwest-trending
asymmetric trough, filled with sediment up to 6 miles thick in the Sacramento Valley. These
sediments range in age from Jurassic to Holocene (190 million years ago to less than 10,000
years ago). The surface geology of the site area consists of Quaternary-aged alluvial deposits
comprised of unconsolidated slightly weathered gravel, sand, silt, and clay.
J:\05930191\ESA.doc 3
