1 • • <br />' 31 August 2001 <br /> • AGE-NC Project No 97-0343 <br />' Page 4 of 6 <br />' 3 1 CPT DRILLING AND GROUND WATER SAMPLING <br /> CPT soil bonngs will be advanced to target depths of 125 feet bsg utilizing a 25-ton truck-mounted <br />' CPT drill rig equipped with 2-inch diameter hollow-stem rods The first soil boring will utilize a <br /> hydraulic ram to advance a cone penetrometer to the desired depth Soil parameters such as cone <br /> bearing, sleeve faction, friction ration and pore water pressure will be measured as the cone <br />' penetrometer is advanced <br /> A second soil boring will be located adjacent the first CPT boring for ground water sample <br />' collection Based on CPT findings,discrete grab ground water samples will be collected in intervals <br /> of saturated, porous and permeable material beginning at a depth of 70 feet bsg A HydroPunch <br /> sample tool will be pushed into the specified zone, then withdrawn approximately three feet to <br />' expose an inlet screen The interior of the sampling tool fills with water and a 1-inch outer diameter <br /> (O D ) stainless steel bailer will be lowered and utilized to extract a ground water sample Grab <br /> ground water samples will be collected in intervals of porous and permeable material All nnseate <br />' generated during drilling will be containenzed in properly labeled DOT-approved 55-gallon drums, <br /> and will be stored on-site in an area lacking public access Disposal alternatives will be selected at <br />�. a later date based on laboratory results of rinseate <br /> Following sample collection, the samples will be placed in laboratory-supplied containers and <br /> Itransported under chain-of-custody to a DHS-certified laboratory <br /> Proposed soil boring locations are illustrated on Figure 2 Following borehole advancement,portland <br /> I cement(grout mix)will be utilized to backfill each borehole utilizing a tremie pipe The SanJoaquin <br /> County PHS-EHD will be notified at least 48 hours prior to initiation of field work to schedule <br /> inspection of the grout mix prior to backfilling the borings <br /> 32 SVE SYSTEM AND PILOT TEST <br /> IAn 8-hour SVE pilot test will be conducted at the site The test will be conducted using a vapor <br /> extraction system(VES),VACLEEN 1000G,manufactured by Environmental Techniques The VES <br /> consists of a positive-displacement blower, driven by an internal combustion(IC) engine The inlet <br /> of the VES will be connected to well VW-3 Air-tight well caps fitted with attached Magnehelic <br /> vacuum gauges,will be attached to wells VW-1, VW-2 and MW-7 and the induced vacuum will be <br /> measured at these monitoring points The air stream from VW-3 will be monitored for the presence <br /> of organic vapor using an organic vapor analyzer(OVA) equipped with a photo-ionization detector <br /> (PID Thermo Environmental 580A, 10 0 eV, calibrated to isobutylene) The vacuum applied to <br /> VW-3 will cause the extracted hydrocarbons to flow through the vacuum pump to the IC engine The <br /> • extracted hydrocarbon vapor will be destroyed in the IC engine as part of its internal combustion <br /> IAdvanced Geo Environmental,Inc <br />
